Freelancers and consultants
Email and SMS freelancers and consultants
Independent email and SMS specialists who build flows, write campaigns and run the calendar for online stores, and how to tell a strategist from a template installer.
When you need this
- Flows were set up once at launch and nobody has looked at the numbers since.
- You send one campaign a week with no plan and want someone to own the calendar.
- Revenue from repeat customers is flat and you want a retention plan, not a template pack.
What it costs, in general terms
Freelancers and consultants usually charge a flat monthly fee, an hourly or day rate, or a percentage of ad spend, with shorter notice periods than agencies and often no minimum spend. Ask for the fee model, the notice period and the hours you get in writing before you compare. Email and SMS work is often priced per month for a set number of campaigns and flows, with copy and design included or separate.
How to choose
- 01Ask to see flows they built and the reasoning behind each trigger and delay.
- 02Ask who writes and designs. Some freelancers do both; some need you to supply one.
- 03Confirm the platform account, the lists and the templates stay in your name.

Frequently asked questions
Freelancer or agency for email and SMS?
A freelancer suits stores that need a few flows kept sharp and a weekly calendar run well. An agency suits larger programmes with heavy design, segmentation and deliverability needs. Ask what the freelancer will not do, so you can plan around it.
How should email revenue be reported?
By flow and by campaign, with the attribution window stated, and set against total store revenue so the share is visible. Platform-reported revenue on its own overstates the channel.
What should be set up first?
Welcome, abandoned cart and browse abandonment flows, a post-purchase flow and a win-back flow, with list growth on site. A freelancer should audit what exists before proposing new work.
